October 7 replaces the original July 2026 window. The production committee postponed the sequel in March because of production circumstances, later narrowed the replacement window to this exact Wednesday, and has now published its Japanese outlet schedule. Crunchyroll separately confirmed an English dub; the dub's start and cast have not been posted.

Verification ledger: reviewed September 17, 2026 using the official Tanmoshi Season 2 site, its on-air and staff pages, the production delay notice, Crunchyroll's Fall simulcast and dub announcements, Crunchyroll's series catalog, and Yen Press's licensed novel catalog.

The most useful way to read that table is by publisher. The official Season 2 on-air page decides Japanese television and domestic streaming. Crunchyroll's Fall 2026 slate decides what its international service has promised. A clock copied from one publisher cannot fill a blank left by the other.

That source split also explains why our Fall 2026 anime overview and interactive release calendar show a known Japanese broadcast alongside an unknown platform upload. The blank is a useful fact: it tells viewers which alert still matters.

Three October 7 clocks answer three different questions

Season 2 has several same-day records. None is interchangeable with the others.

Outlet October 7 record US Pacific equivalent Meaning
AT-X 9:30 p.m. JST 5:30 a.m. PDT Japanese television
d Anime Store 10:00 p.m. JST 6:00 a.m. PDT Japan-only early stream listed by production
Tokyo MX 10:30 p.m. JST 6:30 a.m. PDT Main Japanese broadcast
Crunchyroll Date confirmed; time TBA TBA International subtitled stream

Tokyo MX's 10:30 p.m. JST broadcast is 9:30 a.m. EDT and 2:30 p.m. BST on October 7. These are mathematical conversions of the Japanese broadcast. They are useful for following official news and avoiding spoilers; they are not estimates of Crunchyroll's processing or release lag.

BS NTV uses the Japanese late-night notation “Wednesday at 24:30.” In ordinary calendar notation that becomes Thursday, October 8 at 12:30 a.m. JST. AT-X repeats its broadcast on Friday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. The remaining named Japanese streaming sites join on Monday, October 12 at 10:30 p.m. JST.

The official schedule states a weekly Wednesday Tokyo MX slot. Applying that cadence produces a short planning ledger:

Scroll horizontally to see all columns

Date Tokyo MX slot Classification
October 7 10:30 p.m. JST Officially dated opening broadcast
October 14 10:30 p.m. JST Calendar calculation
October 21 10:30 p.m. JST Calendar calculation
October 28 10:30 p.m. JST Calendar calculation

Only the opening row has its own dated announcement. The other rows project the stated cadence and may move if a broadcaster changes programming. They do not establish episode numbers, a finale or the length of the order.

Why July still appears in search results

Season 2 has been publicly in production since 2022, but the first 2026 broadcast plan pointed to July. On March 15, the committee issued a formal postponement notice: production circumstances required an October start. It did not blame a named studio, person or incident, so a more colorful explanation would be speculation.

The evidence trail now has four useful states:

  1. Production announced: a sequel exists.
  2. Superseded window: July 2026 is no longer valid.
  3. Interim window: October 2026 was correct but incomplete.
  4. Current date: October 7, 2026 is the exact answer.

This lineage matters because a cached card can be historically genuine and presently wrong. Our new-season announcement tracker uses the same distinction across titles instead of silently overwriting earlier announcements.

No second delay appears in the records reviewed for this page. If the committee changes the date again, the new record should replace October 7 while preserving this history.

What Crunchyroll has promised—and what it has not

The Fall lineup names Season 2, ENGI, October 7 and these service regions: North, Central and South America; Europe; Africa; Oceania; the Middle East; CIS; and Southeast Asia. It labels both subtitle and dub airtimes TBA.

On release day, use this order of evidence:

  1. Visit the licensed Crunchyroll series record.
  2. Look for a Season 2 selector. The visible twelve-episode set belongs to Season 1 until the service adds the sequel.
  3. Open the new episode and inspect its language row.
  4. Confirm playback from your actual location and subscription state.
  5. Use Crunchyroll's current calendar if the season page has not yet updated.

This process avoids two common errors: confusing a title's catalog presence with the new season being playable, and treating a country list as a guarantee for every account. The legal anime viewing checklist expands the title–season–country–language test. The streaming service comparison is useful only after the catalog check confirms that this particular season serves your region.

PrimeTimeAnime records a service-link click as interest in the destination. It is not proof that the visitor watched an episode, bought a subscription or generated revenue.

The English dub is real; its schedule is not public yet

The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 appears by name in Crunchyroll's Fall English-dub announcement. That establishes an English production. The same announcement says that launch timing and cast information will come later.

Until Crunchyroll adds those details, the supported dub record is:

  • Existence: confirmed.
  • Launch day: TBA.
  • Weekly hour: TBA.
  • English cast: TBA.
  • Same-day relationship to subtitles: unconfirmed.

Season 1 already has English audio on Crunchyroll. That makes an English rewatch possible, but it cannot prove that the sequel keeps the same cast or release interval. A catalog language attached to the 2021 episodes belongs to those episodes.

A spoiler-light Season 1 re-entry map

Crunchyroll's catalog contains twelve numbered Season 1 episodes. Finishing episode 12, “Those Dizzying Three Years I Spent with You,” completes the televised preparation currently listed by the service; there is no separate movie inserted into that numbered route.

Four relationships are enough to re-enter the story:

Scroll horizontally to see all columns

Thread Memory prompt
Kimihiko and Siesta Their partnership begins during an airplane hijacking and grows through years of investigations
Kimihiko and Nagisa A new case ties Nagisa's search for purpose to the unresolved past
Yui and Charlotte Both remain part of the circle pulled into those mysteries
Siesta's absence Her death drives the story while her influence keeps reshaping the present

The official third trailer describes the sequel as the long story of regaining the detective. That wording offers direction without fixing a light-novel endpoint. For another licensed supernatural mystery while waiting, the Death Note viewing guide handles the separate question of legal regional access.

Who is making Season 2?

The production credit page returns Manabu Kurihara as director at ENGI. Deko Akao handles series composition and scripts; Yosuke Ito is character designer; and 40mP with Yuyu compose the music.

Siesta Saki Miyashita
Nagisa Natsunagi Ayana Taketatsu
Yui Saikawa Kanon Takao
Charlotte Arisaka Anderson Saho Shirasu

Scarlet Nobuhiko Okamoto

Koume performs the opening, “Kono Shinzō ni Hanataba o,” and Kagura Nana performs the ending, “Hakuchūmu.” These credits concern the Japanese production. They provide no evidence for the English cast or total runtime.

The licensed books and the missing adaptation endpoint

The source work is nigozyu's light-novel series with illustrations by Umibouzu. Yen Press currently lists twelve English volumes and links its manga edition from the same licensed catalog.

There is no defensible “start after Season 2 at Volume X” answer on September 17. The sequel has not aired, and neither the production committee nor Yen Press has published its finishing point. Promotional trailers can reveal characters without proving where the final episode stops.

Readers who want every scene can start the novels at Volume 1. Readers who want only material after the anime should wait until the finale and compare the completed adaptation against the licensed edition. The light-novel buying guide lists publisher-authorized formats and explains why marketplace availability is different from licensing evidence.

Update triggers for this tracker

This page needs another source check when any of the following happens:

  • Crunchyroll adds a subtitle clock or a playable Season 2 selector.
  • Crunchyroll dates the English dub or publishes its cast.
  • The committee changes an outlet time or announces the episode order.
  • An official story record assigns dates to individual episodes.
  • The completed adaptation supports a book continuation point.

Until then, October 7 is confirmed, the Japanese clocks are exact, and the remaining TBA fields should stay blank.

Frequently Asked Questions

What date replaces the original July plan?

October 7, 2026. The production committee first moved the sequel from July to an October window, then published the exact Wednesday start.

At what hour can US viewers use Crunchyroll?

Crunchyroll has not supplied that hour. Tokyo MX's 10:30 p.m. JST broadcast converts to 6:30 a.m. PDT and 9:30 a.m. EDT, but those conversions describe Japanese television.

Is there an English dub?

Yes. Crunchyroll named the sequel in its Fall English-dub slate. The launch date and cast are still TBA.

Is the episode count twelve again?

No official source reviewed here gives a Season 2 total. Season 1 has twelve episodes; repeating that number for the sequel would be an assumption.

Which platform carries the sequel?

Crunchyroll announced it for the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and Southeast Asia. Playback should still be checked on the live title page from the viewer's location.

Where should readers continue in the novels?

An after-Season-2 volume cannot be fixed before the adaptation finishes. Yen Press offers twelve English volumes; Volume 1 is the reliable route for readers who do not want to miss novel material.

Release file in one paragraph

The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 has an October 7, 2026 start on Crunchyroll and Japanese television. Tokyo MX's clock is 10:30 p.m. JST; Crunchyroll's clock is TBA. The date follows a postponement from July, the English dub exists without a published schedule, and the episode total remains unknown.
