Naruto Filler List 2026: Complete Skip or Watch Guide

How much of Naruto is filler?

Anime Filler List labels 90 of the original Naruto's 220 episodes filler, 41% of the series. Another 56 are mixed canon/filler and 74 are manga canon. Naruto Shippuden has the same 41% share: 203 filler episodes out of 500. Across both series, 293 of 720 episodes are filler.

Counts come from the episode tables on Anime Filler List's Naruto and Naruto Shippuden pages. Both pages give 41% as the filler share. The original series aired on TV Tokyo from October 3, 2002, to February 8, 2007, and adapts the first 27 volumes of the manga's Part I (Wikipedia).

"Mixed" means an episode combines manga events with anime-only scenes. Apart from 141 and 142, every mixed episode in the original Naruto falls inside a manga arc or is the finale, so skipping one means losing part of the actual story.

Which Naruto episodes should you skip, arc by arc?

Keep everything from episode 1 to 135 except the recap episode 26 and the standalone filler episode 97, treat episode 101 as optional, then skip 102–106 and 136–219 and finish with episode 220. That is 130 episodes and every manga arc of Part I, from the Land of Waves to the Sasuke Retrieval.

Arc boundaries follow the episode titles and summaries in Wikipedia's season 1, season 2, season 3, season 4 and season 5 lists, cross-checked against Anime Filler List's labels. Arc names are our plain descriptions, not official titles. The last column is our suggestion.

Three notes on the table:

• Episode 26 is a recap. Wikipedia describes it as an anime-only news report in which Konohamaru's class interviews Team 7, "where they retell the story up until this point." Nothing new happens, so it's the easiest skip in the series.
• Episode 101 comes from a bonus manga strip. Wikipedia says it is "based on a special omake," but AFL still lists it as filler. It's a single comedy episode with no effect on the plot. Watch it or skip it.
• Episode 202 is also a recap. It replays highlights of five fights from the Sasuke Retrieval arc, which you'll have just watched at 107–135.

What is the complete Naruto skip list?

Following AFL's labels strictly, skip these 90 episodes: 26, 97, 101–106, 136–140 and 143–219. After episode 135 the series barely touches the manga again: of the last 85 episodes only 141, 142 and 220 are labeled mixed, and none is labeled manga canon.

Episode 135 closes the Sasuke Retrieval arc, and episode 220 closes the series.

Our suggestion: watch 1–135 (skipping 26 and 97 if you like), then episode 220, then start Shippuden. Wikipedia's summary of 220 ends with Naruto and Jiraiya leaving the village "for two and half years of training," which is the time skip Shippuden opens after. Episodes 141 and 142 are labeled mixed, but they sit inside two filler arcs. You can skip them unless you're already watching those arcs.

Which mixed episodes are worth keeping?

Every mixed episode from 1 to 135. In the original series "mixed" nearly always means a manga episode with some anime padding: episodes 14–16 hold the Haku fight and Sasuke's Sharingan awakening, 98–100 resolve the Tsunade arc, and 130–131 carry Sasuke's Uchiha massacre backstory.

A filler guide that tells you to skip all of these would cut real story. Here is what Wikipedia's summaries say several of the mixed runs contain:

How long does Naruto take to watch without filler?

At 23 minutes per episode, the 130 canon and mixed episodes of Naruto take 2,990 minutes, about 49 hours 50 minutes, against about 84 hours 20 minutes for all 220. Skipping every filler episode in both series saves 293 × 23 = 6,739 minutes, about 112 hours.

JustWatch lists a runtime of 23 minutes per episode for both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. We use that figure below. It includes the opening and ending songs, so skipping them cuts a few minutes per episode.

Which Naruto Shippuden episodes are filler?

Anime Filler List labels 203 Shippuden episodes pure filler: 57–71, 91–112, 144–151, 170–171, 176–196, 223–242, 257–260, 271, 279–281, 284–295, 303–320, 347–361, 376–377, 388–390, 394–413, 416–417, 422–423, 427–450, 464–468 and 480–483. Episodes 1–19 are mixed, not filler, and 484–500 are manga canon.

Three details matter most:

• Episode 28 is the only "anime canon" episode. AFL counts it separately from filler, so the canon-inclusive route is 297 episodes, not 296.
• Episodes 484–500 are labeled manga canon. They are the last 17 episodes of the series, and the final seven are titled "Hidden Leaf Story, The Perfect Day for a Wedding."
• The opening is mixed, not filler. Episodes 1–19 are all labeled mixed, so don't skip them.

Where can you watch Naruto in the US?

Crunchyroll and Hulu carry both series by subscription; Netflix, Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Pluto TV and Tubi carry only the original Naruto. Crunchyroll is the one subscription JustWatch lists for both series with English and Japanese audio, so it is our pick.

Services don't carry the same number of seasons, and they don't split seasons the same way. JustWatch lists 5 seasons of Naruto on Netflix but 4 on Hulu, Pluto TV and Tubi. Wikipedia notes that Viz and Hulu count episodes 1–52 as season 1, while Netflix and Crunchyroll count episodes 1–26 as season 1. When you use the skip list above, go by episode numbers or titles, not season numbers. Before you commit to a free option, check that it goes past episode 135.

Do you need the Naruto movies?

No. The three original-series films, Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004), Legend of the Stone of Gelel (2005) and Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom (2006), are separate missions that never appear in the TV episode list. Watch them after episode 135 if you want them.

Which fillers can I skip in Naruto?

All 90: episodes 26, 97, 101–106, 136–140 and 143–219. Episode 26 is a recap, 101 is a one-off comedy episode you can keep, and nearly everything after episode 135 is anime-original except the finale, episode 220.

Is Naruto 136 to 200 filler?

Almost entirely. Anime Filler List labels 136–140 and 143–200 filler; only 141 and 142 are labeled mixed, and they sit inside two filler arcs, so most viewers skip the whole block and jump from 135 to 220.

Why are the last episodes of Naruto filler?

Because the anime ran out of Part I manga to adapt. Episode 135 closes the Sasuke Retrieval arc, the last arc of the manga's Part I, and the series then ran 84 more episodes (136–219) that Anime Filler List labels filler apart from 141 and 142, before the finale on February 8, 2007. Of episodes 136–220, only 141, 142 and 220 are labeled mixed.

Is Naruto 450 filler?

The original Naruto has only 220 episodes. Naruto Shippuden episode 450 is filler: it sits inside the 427–450 block that Anime Filler List labels pure filler.

How many Shippuden episodes are filler?

AFL labels 203 of Shippuden's 500 episodes filler. The other 297 are manga canon, mixed or anime canon (episode 28 only).
