Where to watch Death Note in the US

VIZ's official watch-or-own record is the identity anchor: one television season, episodes 1–37, 888 minutes, and a TV-14 rating. It names Hulu, Netflix, Pluto TV, Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, and GRUV as routes, but each can represent a different subscription, live, rental, purchase, or product state.

Best free option: the official VIZ YouTube playlist

VIZ announced its free YouTube anime collection on November 6, 2024 and explicitly said all 37 Death Note episodes were included with English subtitles. The official playlist still returned successfully during this review.

Use this completeness receipt:

Check the visible playlist rather than assuming an old announcement guarantees today's inventory. A regional restriction, removed video, or reordered playlist can make a nominally complete collection unusable. If both endpoints and all 37 numbered episodes are present, this is the strongest free route found in the current evidence.

The official page is also easier to verify than a search-result snippet. You can see the channel owner, individual episode titles, playlist order, and availability before committing to a marathon.

Hulu's 70-item label does not mean 70 story episodes

Hulu's current public page identifies the correct 2006 anime and says one season is available, but it displays 70 episodes. VIZ, the North American rights holder, establishes that the television story contains 37 episodes.

Do not invent extra episodes or describe Hulu as an extended cut. The safest reading is simply that Hulu's interface contains 70 episode items while the canonical story has 37 numbered episodes. Hulu's current anime guide separately says the series has English dubbed and Japanese options, so language-specific listings may contribute to the larger display. The public records reviewed here do not prove the exact composition of all 70 items.

Verify Hulu this way:

1. Confirm the page says TV Series and 2006.
2. Choose English dubbed or Japanese audio deliberately.
3. Find episode 1, “Rebirth.”
4. Confirm the numbered story sequence reaches episode 37, “New World.”
5. Ignore duplicate-language or non-story items when tracking progress.
6. Require playback inside the intended US account.

Netflix: open the anime title, not one of the movies

The correct Netflix anime record is title 70204970. It identifies a 2006 TV-14 anime starring Mamoru Miyano, Kappei Yamaguchi, and Shido Nakamura. Its synopsis begins with a Japanese high schooler finding a supernatural notebook.

Netflix also exposes at least two similarly named film records:

The year alone is not enough because the anime and first Japanese live-action film both use 2006 in current records. Check series versus movie, the cast, and the presence of an episode list.

Inside Netflix, require a 37-episode television sequence and the intended audio or subtitle track. The public anime page establishes the work identity, but it does not expose enough durable inventory evidence to promise that every US profile currently receives all episodes.

Tubi: subtitle and dub records have different states

Tubi's current anime category lists Death Note (Subtitled) as a 2007 TV-14 title. That is useful current service evidence. During this review, the direct subtitled route entered Tubi's regional privacy handling rather than exposing an inspectable episode list.

The separate English-dubbed page was clearer in the wrong direction: it displayed “content unavailable.” Do not turn the presence of a dub page into an availability claim.

If you want Tubi:

• Search the service from the intended US account.
• Open the subtitle or dub record explicitly.
• Require episode 1 and a Play control.
• Check whether the sequence reaches episode 37.
• Switch to the official VIZ playlist if the selected language record is unavailable.

An older Tubi announcement said all 37 subtitled episodes were licensed in the US and Canada, but current account evidence should override a 2016 press release. The current category listing supports checking the subtitle route; it does not repair the unavailable dub page.

What about Crunchyroll, Pluto TV, Prime Video, and storefronts?

Google currently ranks Crunchyroll's official Death Note series page second. Automated inspection returned 403, so this review could not verify its episodes, languages, or entitlement. Search Crunchyroll while signed in and accept the route only if it exposes the 37-episode anime.

VIZ's current watch-or-own page names Pluto TV, Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, and GRUV alongside Hulu and Netflix. That is distributor evidence that these are relevant destinations. It does not mean every destination offers subscription streaming.

Use the control shown by the service:

• Play can indicate included or ad-supported streaming.
• Live schedule means you cannot necessarily choose an episode.
• Rent or Buy is a transaction for the selected season or episode.
• Blu-ray/DVD is a physical product rather than streaming.

How to avoid the wrong Death Note result

The correct television anime has these identity fields:

• Format: anime television series.
• Story length: 37 episodes.
• First episode: “Rebirth.”
• Last episode: “New World.”
• Japanese leads include Mamoru Miyano and Kappei Yamaguchi.

Reject a result that presents a feature-film runtime, Nat Wolff as Light Turner, or Tatsuya Fujiwara in a Japanese live-action cast. Those are legitimate Death Note adaptations, but they do not answer a search for the complete anime.
